Who Am I ?
My name is Mohammed Uzair Bhamjee, and I am a passionate and dedicated counselling psychologist. My journey into psychology was inspired by the need I observed in my community—limited access to mental health services—and my fascination with the complexities of the human mind and behaviour. Encouraged by the resilience of the human spirit and the support of close friends, I embarked on a career focused on fostering healing and personal growth.
I earned my undergraduate and honours degrees at North-West University and completed my master’s degree in psychology at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Over the years, I have gained diverse experience, serving in the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), working with the humanitarian organization Gift of the Givers, and providing psychological care in hospitals. These roles have enriched my ability to adapt across cultural contexts and address a wide range of psychological needs.
In my practice, I focus on trauma, couples therapy, high-performance athletes, and adult clients. My therapeutic approach integrates Brain Working Recursive Therapy (BWRT), a person-cantered methodology, and Interactional Pattern Analysis (IPA). I am committed to tailoring my techniques to each client’s unique needs, creating a compassionate and effective pathway to mental well-being. Additionally, I conduct corporate wellness workshops, helping organizations enhance resilience, mental health, and productivity in the workplace.
I am particularly passionate about understanding the impact of culture on mental health, breaking the stigma around mental health issues, and exploring the interconnectedness of the mind, body, and soul. My research focuses on Islam as a source of resilience among Muslim adults in South Africa and how certain aspects of Indian culture may hinder individuals from seeking psychological support.
What sets me apart is my adaptability, ability to remain calm under pressure, and my integration of psychological expertise with military and humanitarian experience. My enthusiasm for innovative therapy techniques, such as BWRT, further enhances my ability to help clients achieve meaningful progress.
Outside the therapy room, I enjoy traveling, immersing myself in new experiences, and exploring different cultures. I am also an avid sportsman who loves running and cycling, and I cherish spending quality time with my family.
